The final State and Regional Consultation for the NADP culminates in Yangon

The Centre for Economic and Social Development (CESD), in association with the Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (MYSAP), The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) and The Department of Fisheries (DOF), organised the final event in a series of state and regional aquaculture-sector consultations on the 18thof December 2018, at the Myanmar Fisheries Federation (MFF) in Yangon. CESD participates in “Together We Succeed” to discuss decent work and industrial peace

The CESD participated in the forum, “Why GSP is Essential for Decent Work and Industrial Peace”, where The CESD’s Executive Director, Dr. Zaw Oo, gave a presentation demonstrating evidence as to why the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) is essential for Myanmar’s continued sustenance in socio-economic reforms and development. The forum was organised by the UMFCCI-Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Ctum Myanmar (Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar), with the objective of discussing possible consequences of GSP withdrawal and counter-arguments for it to remain.

CESD facilitates 3rd State Consultation for NADP at First Shan State Forum

CESD attended the First Shan State Forum for Sustainable Fish Production, organised by the Department of Fisheries (DoF) and The Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (MYSAP) in Taungyyi, Shan State. During the event proceedings, the CESD also facilitated and conducted the 3rd State and Regional Consultation for the National Aquaculture Development (NADP) that closely resembled the previous consultations at Mandalay and Mawlamyine.

CESD staff participate in disability awareness training

Last week, the CESD staff participated in a disability awareness training organised by the ICCO Regional Office South East Asia and The Leprosy Mission Myanmar. The training assisted the CESD’s researchers to better include people with disabilities from a research and policy perspective which will support the CESD’s mandate of bringing socio-economic reforms that benefit all communities in Myanmar.

The training was an appropriate run up towards The United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd), which aims to focus on issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide and increase awareness about these communities.
