On June 14 and 15 the Centre for Economic and Social Development co-organised a conference at the Park Royal hotel in Yangon on how to Advance BIMSTEC Cooperation together with the Delhi Policy Group (DPG), the Asia Foundation and the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (MISIS).
The conference was attended by representatives from government, business and civil society from the BIMSTEC countries and addressed policy areas such as Trade and Economic Integration, Multi-modal Connectivity, Energy, People to People contact as well as other pertinent topics such as Gender, Food Security and Climate Resilience. A joint effort between CESD and the Social Protection and Jobs team at the World Bank Myanmar resulted in rapid assessments across 6 regions across Myanmar in the span of 3 months. The recent field visit to both Mon and Kayin States marked the final phase of a series of assessments aimed at understanding the labor mobility patterns within Myanmar. These efforts are geared towards developing effective labour policies that are reflective of the current situation in the country which also answers the needs of the communities.
