Kyan Htoo joined CESD as a Research Associate in April 2014, and is mainly involved with the ‘Food security policy and rural economic development program‘, implemented in partnership with Michigan State University (MSU) and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
While at CESD, Kyan Htoo is actively involved in research and capacity building initiatives focusing on improving agricultural productivity, agricultural product value chains including fish, rural non-farm employment and livelihoods.
Prior to joining CESD, Kyan Htoo worked for the Ministry of Information as an Editor from 2012 to 2013, and the Department of Agricultural Planning (DAP), Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, as a Deputy Assistant Program Officer from 2004 to 2012. Whilst working for DAP, Kyan Htoo also worked at Terre des Hommes-Italia (TDH-It) as a short-term consultant. While at Terre des Hommes-Italia, he conducted base-line surveys, experiments on simple hydroponic green-house systems, and writing project proposals and reports on livelihood and agriculture development.
Kyan Htoo has also held the role of Program Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)-Myanmar, where he held a coordination role between the country office and regional office in Bangkok and line Ministries for the implementation of development projects.
Kyan Htoo has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from Yezin Agricultural University (YAU), where he studied basic general agriculture from first to third year and then specialized in horticulture in his final year. After graduating from YAU, he studied in Israel for a Diploma in Agri-business Studies. He also successfully read his Master Degree in Agriculture and Rural Development at Hankyeong National University (HKNU) in South Korea.
