In May 2015, the Myanmar Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative released its report, “Institutional and regulatory assessment of the extractive industries in Myanmar”, providing a baseline assessment of the oil and gas, mining (including jade and gemstones) and the hydro-power sectors in Myanmar.

This report is the first in-depth study of the context in Myanmar for the introduction of international standards (i.e. EITI standards) for transparency in the extractive industries sector.

This report informs efforts to improve natural resource governance, including support for developing natural resource policies, laws and regulations, tax administration, licence management and land registration systems, community development agreements, and environmental and social impact management.
