MDRI-CESD and The Asia Foundation released their report “Women’s Participation in the Subnational Governance of Myanmar” on 17 June 2014, at the International Business Centre, Yangon.
The launch event included a presentation of research findings by Dr.Paul Minoletti (Research Coordinator, MDRI-CESD) exploring the current state of women’s participation in subnational governance; the impacts of women’s participation; and the barriers and enabling factors for women’s participation in governance structures.
A panel discussion followed, with a focus on what could be done to increase women’s active participation in governance structures in Myanmar. The panelists included Dr. Nyo Nyo Thinn (MP, Yangon Region Parliament), Nang Phyu Phyu Linn (Program Advisor – Gender, CARE Myanmar), and Paul Minoletti. The session was moderated by Sanda Thant (Gender Specialist, UNDP).
